역사물의 형상성과 상징성에서 건저올린 웅혼한 정신화면(畫面)에 공존하는 그들 중엔 물기가 마르면서 풀어졌던 것들이 건조되면서 무정형으로 응집된 마티에르를 드러내기도 한다. 때문에 주목해야 할 것은 재료물성들의 특성을 가장 자연스러운 상태로 훼손하지 않고 살린다는 점이다.
Among those which coexist in the picture reveals matière that cohered amorphously as untangled ones got dried. Therefore, a point to be focused is boosting the characteristics of material properties in the most natural condition without any damages.
여기에 화백은 먹과 붓의 운용을 비롯한 그만의 여러 도구와 방식으로 비석이나 비문 등 다양한 역사물과 실재하지 않는 의상세계(意想世界)를 펼친다.

화면은 물, 바람, 공기와 긴장과 이완이 녹아든 유기체적 입체추상회화의 결정체로 탄생한다. 물성을 일순간 하나로 모으는 혼(魂)이 함께 만나 탄생된 그것은 우주의 모든 사물이 시시각각 나고 죽고 하여 잠깐도 끊이지 아니하고 변화한다는 염념생멸(念念生滅)의 우주관을 드러낸다.
A picture created as a fruit of organic solid abstract painting which includes water, wind, air, intensity and relaxation. Those which born as meeting the spirit that gathers a property of matter into one reveal the cosmology of arises and ceases from moment to moment, which means entire matters in the universe are to change continuously without an instance of pause as born and die every hour.
변화와 조화를 수용하는 정중동(靜中動), 동중정(動中靜)의 조형미이며 동시에 자연의 법칙에 빗나감이 없는 자취이기도 하다. 또한 운율을 이루는 풍화와 평면에서 무한대인 곡률(曲率)처럼 영원성을 품는 입체 비구상(非具象) 한국화의 정수(精髓)라 해도 무방하다.
This is the beauty as ‘tatic of dynamic’ and ‘dynamic of ‘tatic’ which accept both change and harmony, and the trace which does not miss the principles of nature. Also, it could be called as the essence of the solid non-figurative Korean paintings which includes eternity like the curvatures that are infinite from the weathering and the plane which creates the meter.
1그가 40여 년 동안 줄곧 찾아내고 구현하고자 외길로 탐색해 온 궁극의 본질은 무엇인가. 비문의 흐릿한 문장, 비석의 나뭇잎, 꽃잎 하나에도 ‘내’ 마음의 기억과 시간의 흔적을 수용하는 초월적 공간으로 동시성(同時性)을 느끼게 한다. 바로 다큐멘타리(documentary)적 ‘History’연작에 담겨진 한국적 생명성이 그것이다.

◇한국화가 상산(尙山) 권의철(權義鐵, Kwon Eui Chul)
화백은 1964년 홍익대 미술대학 동양화과에 입학하게 된다. 1974년 제23회 국전(國展)에 출품하여 입선하게 되는데 이때 그는 비구상 작품을 선보이기 시작한다. 이후 1984년 제30회 국전까지 7회 입선하는 기염(氣焰)을 토했다. 대한민국 미술대전 비구상부문심사위원장, 운영위원을 역임했으며 미술대전초대작가이고 현재 국전작가회 사무총장이기도 하다.
◇The Korean Painter, Sangsan Kwon EuiChul
The painter entered the Department of Oriental Painting, College of Fine Arts, Hongik University in 1964. He was awarded from the 23rd National Art Exhibition in 1974, and he started to present the non-figurative works at the time. Later, he had been remarkably awarded 7 times until the 30th National Art Exhibition in1984.
He is a former foreman of a jury and a committee member of the non-figurative area of the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea, and currently is the invited artist of the art exhibition and the secretary general of the Members Exhibition Republic of Korea.
